  • Overview

    WOOD is currently hiring a Linux Systems Engineer to join our team in the Annapolis Junction, MD area. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation’s core defense/intelligence services and systems.


    • Provide basic to complex systems administration, operational support and problem resolution for UNIX/Linux based systems.
    • Coordinates Linux/UNIX system administration and operational support (e.g., hardware/software installation, maintenance and support, security, storage management, backup/restore and disaster recovery)
    • Administration, Maintenance and oversight of SonarQube and Redmine tools for software authentication of similar Open Source Tools 
    • Assists in testing, operational support, monitoring, capacity planning, and troubleshooting to maintain system normalcy
    • Evaluating, installing, monitoring and maintaining application status, health, and performance
    • Applying operating system and security patches
    • Supports the development of program required security documentation, including items such as security plans, contingency plans, and security tests plans and procedures in compliance with the Information Assurance policy
    • Designs, develops, builds, and tests development, testing and production environments as needed
    • Work as part of a team that improves existing technologies in compliance with established project management processes
    • Red Hat LINUX, UNIX command line administration
    • Performs Linux audit and reporting tasks
    • Command level Database troubleshooting, including SQL, skills highly desirable
    • Troubleshoots, develops and designs network architectures consisting of multilevel access and multilevel security platforms
    • Evaluates and reports on new/emerging network/communication technologies to enhance capacity, performance and reliability of the network


     *All Candidates must have a TS/SCI clearance with a Polygraph

    • A Bachelor’s degree in a Qualified Engineering Field or a related discipline from an accredited college or university plus fifteen (15) years of systems engineering experience
    • OR A High School Diploma or GED plus nineteen (19) years of general systems engineering experience (any Process Area)
    • OR A Master’s degree in a Qualified Engineering Field or a related discipline from an accredited college or university plus thirteen (13) years of systems engineering experience.
    • Very solid application of systems engineering and administration concepts, principles, and theories
    • Interest and/or experience with CM tools such as Puppet, Anscible or Chef
    • Interest in learning more about software code and scripting.  Good vs. bad code and software authentication 
    • Basic scripting experience 

    Preferred Experience:

    • Familiar with cyber security specifications such as Risk Management Framework (RMF), DoD Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process (C&A, A&A), Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and other government security specifications and guidelines
